Rabbit in Headlights (www.rabbitinheadlights.co.uk) is casting for our small scale touring production of Animal Farm which is being directed by Sophie Flack (Young Vic directors programme).
As the premiere show of the company, each cast member will receive a flat fee of £300 to cover rehearsal time and expenses. Performances will then be on a profit share basis. We hope that the show will then go on to a further and bigger tour.
Those selected for audition will need to be available to attend an in person audition from 2pm on 2 July at Seaford Little Theatre, East Sussex.
Rehearsals will take place in Seaford, East Sussex. Those cast will need to be available for block daytime rehearsals on the following dates: 18, 20-23, 25, 27-30 September and 2 October 2023. Evening performances are currently scheduled for 3-5, 7, 19, 20, 28 October 2023. Additional daytime school performances are also being considered which will also take place in October 2023.
This production will be telling the story through the lens of our contemporary social services crisis.
Animal Farm was originally written in response to the Russian Revolution of 1917, which itself was caused by bad state management of a crisis (WW1) leading to a huge rise in the cost of living and food shortages. To Britain in 2023, this sounds distressingly familiar - as we daily live in a world where doctors, nurses, teachers, rail workers and postal workers are consistently on strike, demanding fairer pay and working hours for the essential services they deliver, while those in charge seem to be living comfortably. All aided by state and media propaganda.
We’re looking for really strong character actors, who are experienced in and comfortable with multi-roling and have the ability to create distinct and instantly recognisable characters, both vocally and physically.
This particular adaptation is very text based and story-telling heavy. However, we will also be doing some movement work and developing ways in which to signify the ‘animalness’ of each character, so are looking for actors who are comfortable with simple movement work.
Please email Spotlight links to hello@rabbitinheadlights.co.uk (no DM’s or links in the comments thanks!) and flag up in your application previous multi-roling experience and any movement/dance skills.
Below are the actor roles we are looking to fill and the characters they will be covering. All roles are open to actors of any age, gender identity and ethnicity.
